Description
The Holy Scriptures, Volume 1 & 2 from the Jewish Publication Society (JPS) are translations of the Hebrew Bible based on the Masoretic Text, which is the authoritative Hebrew text for Judaism. This text preserves the traditional readings of the Hebrew Bible, using diacritical marks to indicate pronunciation and proper vowel sounds, as passed down by Jewish scholars known as Masoretes.
The JPS Tanakh (sometimes referred to by this name) was first published in 1917 and remains one of the most respected Jewish translations of the Bible. The Tanakh is an acronym for Torah (the Five Books of Moses), Nevi'im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings), covering the entirety of the Hebrew Bible.
