Description
The Chribska Studio, established in 1414, is one of the oldest glassworks in Bohemia (now part of the Czech Republic). The studio became renowned for its high-quality handcrafted glass, and Josef Hospodka (1923–1989) was one of the prominent designers who worked there during the mid-20th century. Hospodka's designs often featured bold, organic forms with vibrant colors, which reflected the mid-century modern aesthetic of the time. His work is celebrated for its fluid shapes, innovative use of color, and mastery of glass-blowing techniques.
Hospodka’s pieces, like your vintage MCM vase, were often asymmetrical, featuring undulating curves that showcased the flexibility and artistry of glass. His use of thick, layered glass with inner colored streaks or bubbles gives the pieces a dynamic, almost sculptural quality. These vases often feature vivid color combinations like amber, red, blue, or green, which would contrast with clear or frosted glass.
