Antique Brass Liturgical Incense Boat – Grape & Vine Design

Antique-style ecclesiastical incense boat, traditionally known as a navicula or navette, used during Christian liturgical services to hold incense before it is transferred to a thurible or censer.

The cast metal vessel features an elegant boat-shaped body raised on a decorative pedestal base, with two hinged lid sections. Richly embossed grape clusters, vine leaves and scrolling foliage cover the exterior, giving the piece a distinctive Gothic Revival / ecclesiastical appearance.

The surface retains an attractive aged brass-toned patina with oxidation, tarnishing and traces of verdigris consistent with age. Both hinged lid sections are present and functional.
