Description

Billy Preston – Encouraging Words is a 1970 vinyl LP released on Apple Records (catalog number ST 3370, US pressing). Billy Preston was often referred to as "the Fifth Beatle" due to his close collaborations with The Beatles, and this album was co-produced by George Harrison. Encouraging Words is significant in Preston’s career, featuring a mix of soul, funk, and gospel influences with a touch of rock.

Notably, this album contains Preston’s versions of two songs written by George Harrison:

  • "My Sweet Lord" (before Harrison's own version appeared on All Things Must Pass)
  • "All Things Must Pass"

Some of the other key tracks include:

  • "Right Now"
  • "The Same Thing Again"
  • "Use What You Got"
  • "Sing One for the Lord" (co-written with Harrison)

The album showcases Billy Preston’s exceptional keyboard skills, particularly on the organ and piano, and reflects his deep connection to the musical scene at the time, especially with The Beatles.
