Vintage Chinese figural chess set featuring 32 sculptural pieces in pale green and dark green/black, housed in an ornate folding wooden chess board.

The board features a carved dragon and traditional Chinese decorative motif surround, brass-tone hardware, and alternating black squares with colourful illustrated Chinese scenes and characters. The board opens to reveal red-lined fitted storage compartments with elastic holders for the chess pieces.

The figural pieces depict traditional Chinese characters, animals, warriors and architectural forms, including pagoda-style rooks. The green material has a jade-like appearance; however, the material has not been professionally tested and is not represented as genuine jade.

An impressive decorative chess set that displays beautifully when open or closed.

Condition

Pre-owned vintage condition with surface scratches, scuffs and general age-related wear to the wooden board. Brass-tone hardware shows tarnish, oxidation and wear. Interior elastic retaining straps show age and stretching. Chess pieces show normal vintage handling wear.
